Softex coupling inserts, known as gear rings or spiders sit between the intermeshing teeth of the coupling hubs, transmitting the torque from the connected prime mover to the driven component whilst allowing the coupling to remain flexible, accommodating small errors in alignment between the connected shafts. In hydraulics, this type of coupling is used to connect a motor to a pump.
The spiders are available in a variety of shore hardness depending on the application and torque rating required.
